Brewing Water Chemistry

Last year Bob McIntire offered a class on brewing water chemistry.  I attended and learned a lot.  Well, he’s offering it again on February 16th.

He’ll teach you how to read your water test results, and the basics that you need to get your brewing water right.  You do not have to be a chemist to take the class, as he’ll show you some basic techniques and chemicals that you can use to dial in your Ph levels, hardness and alkalinity.  He’ll even provide a handy free water chemistry calculator that you can use to guide you in adjusting the properties of your water.

The class will be held at Wine Creations, 814 NE 4th Street, Grand Rapids.

February 16, 2018   Time: 1pm – 3 pm

Cost :$5.00

Big Brew 2018

May 5, 2018 – Don’t Miss It!

Big Brew LogoWe’ll be gathering at Klockow Brewing Company for our annual Big Brew event.  Bring your equipment and brew if you want, or just come and visit with friends who are brewing in the parking lot.

Some of the folks will be showing up at 11 AM to get started, but there is no hurry to get going and finish.

Don’t miss the simultaneous toast at 12:00 p.m. CT.  We’ll raise a glass with fellow brewers across the globe who are participating in their local big brew events.

One of the members will be bringing in his electric HERMS system and will crank out a 10 gallon all grain Belgian Dubbel.  Others will be doing extract kit brews, and all grain brews on traditional propane burner systems.

This is not a public tasting event, but feel free to bring some homebrew to share with your fellow brewers and guests.  You might want to bring some food to eat, and as always, we can order food in for delivery.

Lets Get Brewing

In 1988, May 7 was announced before Congress as National Homebrew Day. The American Homebrewers Association (AHA) created AHA Big Brew as an annual event to celebrate National Homebrew Day around the world. AHA Big Brew is held each year on the first Saturday in May.
