May 5, 2018 – Don’t Miss It!
We’ll be gathering at Klockow Brewing Company for our annual Big Brew event. Bring your equipment and brew if you want, or just come and visit with friends who are brewing in the parking lot.
Some of the folks will be showing up at 11 AM to get started, but there is no hurry to get going and finish.
Don’t miss the simultaneous toast at 12:00 p.m. CT. We’ll raise a glass with fellow brewers across the globe who are participating in their local big brew events.
One of the members will be bringing in his electric HERMS system and will crank out a 10 gallon all grain Belgian Dubbel. Others will be doing extract kit brews, and all grain brews on traditional propane burner systems.
This is not a public tasting event, but feel free to bring some homebrew to share with your fellow brewers and guests. You might want to bring some food to eat, and as always, we can order food in for delivery.
In 1988, May 7 was announced before Congress as National Homebrew Day. The American Homebrewers Association (AHA) created AHA Big Brew as an annual event to celebrate National Homebrew Day around the world. AHA Big Brew is held each year on the first Saturday in May.
The Boreal Brewers Homebrew Club will be keeping the Community Oktoberfest tradition alive this year. We’ll be hosting a homebrew tasting event at the future site of Klockow Brewing Company, who has graciously allowed us to use their parking lot for the afternoon.
We’re promoting it via our Facebook page, so follow this link for more details.
If you are a member of our club, see the previous post for how you might be able to help out at the event.
The GRACF decided that they would not be able to hold their Oktoberfest celebration this year. :-(. We discussed this at the club leadership, and decided to take action to keep the tradition alive. So…
We are planning an Oktoberfest event for Saturday, September 23rd from 4-7pm in the parking lot of the soon to open Klockow Brewing Company. They have graciously allowed us to use their parking lot. They won’t be open yet, and won’t have beer to serve, but Andy and Tasha are gracious hosts.
We need your help to keep Oktoberfest alive in Grand Rapids. We don’t know how big will turn out, but whether it’s 50 or 250 folks that show , we plan to have fun anyway.
The club will provide the following:
- Tasting cups
- Rinse pails and water
- Wrist bands
- Our Banner
- and we’re working on advertising on social media, signage, a grill for members to use
We’re also working on getting a food truck to show up, and if we can show enough people responding on Facebook, it may help.
How can you help?
- Promote our event on Facebook and twitter. I have link to the Facebook event here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1909038676082005/
- Respond to our survey (google form) on whether or not you can attend, help out, provide beer, etc.
Thanks, have a home brew.
Our club has been quite active this year in supporting local charity events. Here’s a quick recap:
- March– Annual Jaycees Home, Sport and Travel Show
- May– Big Brew at Zorbaz. This was not a charity event, but a part of our public education mission
- May– Taste of Itasca tasting for Bridges Mentoring
- July– Deer River BarBQue and Brew Fest
- August– NCROC Visitors Day
- August– Itasca County Fair
- September– ElderCircle Harvest Dinner
- September– Grand Rapids Area Community Foundation Oktimberfest
Special thanks to all that were able to help out and contribute beer. Beer lovers in our community appreciate it!
We had committed to a couple of other events that were canceled by their organizers. It looks like our calendar is clear for the rest of this year, so now we’ll have some time to get together at club meetings.
We’ll post meeting notices here, so sign up on our home page to get notified.
Relax and Have a Homebrew!
