This is an attempt at a clone of the Anchor Steam beer. It is based on a California common beer style.

I decreased the gap in my barley crusher to get a finer crush. It seemed like i got it too tight, as the grain was crushed, not cracked. I worried about getting a stuck mash.
I did a batch sparge on this brew. First mash at 158F for 1 hr. Vorloffed about 1/2 gallon, then sparged quickly. After the first sparge was done, I added 6.5 gallons of hot water and raised 2nd mash to 154F. I let this mash for 30 minutes.
I vorloffed another 1/2 gallon, and ran this sparge fairly quickly too. It seemed pretty clear.
I collected about 7.5 gallons of wort. I checked the pre-boil gravity, and hit 1.0491 (gravity = 1.040 at temp of 114F calculates out to 1.0491)
