Brew Sampling, First Friday Art Walk

The next monthly First Friday Art Walk in Grand Rapids is coming up Friday March 3.  The United Way of 1000 Lakes has asked if we could participate by setting up a sampling for the Art Walk participants.  It would consist of serving homebrew samples from 4 – 7 PM, at the Lake + Co shop at 403 NW First Avenue.  This part of the Art Walk is called “Meet the Brewers,” and the goal is to allow people to sample locally produced products, and meet the brewers.  Castle Danger was the brewery in February, we’re being asked if we can do the same in March.

Please respond ASAP

As with most samplings, not much brew is needed.  If you are interested in participating, a six pack is usually enough.  We’d need two or three brewers with their beer, or you could send along beer if you can’t participate.  If you can participate in either manner, please fill out the Doodle Poll here, or email me directly with the “Contact Us” link on this site.

Boreal Brewers

Boreal Brewers Club Meeting

We’re going have a club meeting on Wednesday, Feb 15th, at the KAXE Boardroom in Grand Rapids.  6:00 – 8:30 PM.

The national Homebrewers Association conference is coming to Minnesota for only the second time, June 15 – 17.  It’s a fantastic conference, and is fairly affordable when you don’t have  to fly to another state to attend.  Registration opens March 7, and this conference sells out.

Topics for the February Boreal Brewers meeting:

Short slide show from 2010, the first time the homebrewers conference was in Minnesota.  We can discuss the conference, and answer questions about it.  One night of the conference is devoted to clubs from around the country serving beer, and there is a stunning amount of creativity in how clubs set up their brewing area.  Some of these will be in the slide show.

We should discuss whether or not we want to participate as a club, and if yes, do we want to pair up with the Northern Ale Stars of Duluth to have a single station hosted by both clubs?

Barrel Aged week at Town Hall in Minneapolis begins Feb 19th.  For the last two years a number of us have gone down Friday (the 24th) and come back Sunday, testing the phenomenal barrel aged beers at Town Hall as well as touring multiple brew pubs in the cities.  We’ll talk about going as a group again.

And there are all the tasting and serving events we’ve done in past years.  Which do we want to participate in this year?

Please show up, bring a friend, and let’s share some brews and potluck Wednesday, Feb 15th.  If you can’t bring beer or food, show up anyway.  It’s not a requirement, and plenty of other people want to share their beer.

The Greatest Conference You’ll Ever Attend

The 39th annual American Homebrewers Association conference will be in Minnesota this year, June 15-17!  2010 was the first time it was here.

It’s a great conference, and it’s hard to describe the quantity of tasting opportunities.  Clubs from around the country serve beer on club night, and breweries from around the country serve on pro night.  The beer education available in the conference sessions is phenomenal.  There’s a conference banquet, with beer.  This conference sells out, and you need to be an AHA member or guest to attend.

Registration will open around March, so you have time to consider joining the AHA.  More info at
